Going the Distance

I gave this film a chance because of Justin Long.  It was just ok, didn't love it.  I think most of the issues I had with this film was the director's fault.  And as far as story.... I like a little more drama and heart-break in  my movies.  But, I stayed awake, which seems to be the deciding factor of a hit or miss film for me these days..

The Brothers Bloom

I've had The Brothers Bloom sitting on my PVR for quite some time now.  Last night I had the perfect opportunity to sit down and watch it.  I never really had much desire to see it, but again, this challenge I have put upon myself is opening a lot of doors to fantastic cinema.

The Brother Bloom was a beautiful film.  The director's talent for seamlessly blending the past and present eras together was phenomenal.  Shot at so many lovely locations, not to mention a great looking cast.  Once you get past the aesthetics of the film you're left with a pretty good con film.  Not the best, but pretty darn good.   I'd see it again; especially since I feel I might have missed something around the final act.

Observe and Report

My favorite reviewers on the planet reviewed this film ages ago, so when I saw it was on tv last night I decided to give it a try.
I can't give my full opinion on it because I fell asleep somewhere in the middle of the final act. I could always go back and try and find the last bit, but from what I saw of it, it wouldn't be worth it.
I like Seth Rogen.  (I really missed his hair in this film though.) At times I laughed - even out loud, but there just wasn't enough to keep me awake. It was starting to drag near the end, so I shut my eyes for just a sec.... And that was the end for me.

Monsters

Monsters was on TV last night.  I have never even heard of it before, but staying true to this "challenge" I decided to give it a try.  It's a UK film, which I found interesting considering it is about two Americans traveling through Mexico trying to get home 6 years after an alien invasion.

The title Monsters is so misleading.  This normally would be one of those movies I would choose to never watch.  I don't like gratuitous gore, and this film was lacking, thank God!  Reminds me a bit of the District 9 aliens.  I film more about understanding foreign beings rather then fear driven violence.  I liked it.

The Kids Are All Right

So I watched The Kids Are All Right last night.  It's another film I waited a long time to see.  It was good.  I didn't necessarily like the ending though.  It's not a culture I understand or can identify with.

Red

I picked RED to watch last night.  I had wanted to see this in theaters when it was out but didn't get the chance.  I have endless love for Bruce Willis.  The older he gets the better.  He is a beautiful man especially when his face has blood trickling down the side!  So yummy!

Red was straight up, meh...  I saw it last night and I can barely remember if it had any redeeming qualities.  I didn't fall a lseep, and I finished the whole movie.  I'm glad I got to see it after wanting to for so long.

The Hurt Locker

Why not start my blog with one of my favorite movies?
I tried finding a movie to watch last night, but wasn't in the mood for much.  So I popped in the Hurt Locker dvd.
I have seen the Hurt Locker maybe 13 times.  3 times in the theater.  I have recommend it to 4 different people who have passionately hated it and vowed to never trust my opinion again.  That's fine.  I get it.  I went to see this movie for two reasons.  I love war movies.  I love Jeremy Renner.  I have seen every Jeremy Renner movie there is, and most post-vietnam war films.  So maybe my love for this movie is bias.
